Final Project

http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/23804977/

I started out by finding sprites that fit my theme but since I couldn't find any, I made my own.  I wanted to make a "home" screen so I decided to make a sprite that when you clicked it, it took you to the game part.  I wanted to make each level more difficult so I thought a great way to do that is start with a small amount of keys that you could click first (space and ones like that) then made it harder by giving more options for keys (like the whole alphabet).  The biggest problem I ran into was the fact that my computer crashed at the end of class today and I lost everything.  I also had an issue with not being able to get the score to increase on some sprites although it would on others.  I tested this by playing the whole game through a few times.  It worked perfectly so I hope you like my game!

***you told me I could do this at my house since it crashed so that is why I'm posting it now!***

Purpose of My Game.

For my final project on Scratch, I decided to do a game involving bees.  Once you score 20 points, you will move onto the next level.  In the first level, you need to press the right key to get the flower, (space, right key, left key, up key or down key).  In the second round, you need to press the right number key to earn a point (0-9).  In the third level, you need to pick the right key in the alphabet to score a point (a-z).

Scoring

A variable is a way to change a certain number every time something happens. A great example of this is scoring. Everytime a fish is caught in this game, the variable increases by one.

Try it

The three puzzles I put in this project were; when you press B the sprite gets bigger and when you press S the sprite gets smaller, when the sprite touches something blue, it plays a high note and when it touches something red it plays a low note and when you move the mouse pointer the sprite follows but never touches.  When working on these, I found it really important to use the sensing blocks.  These triggered the action whenever it needed to happen.  These can be really helpful for my game since I can use sensing blocks if I want to win or lose.  The one with the sounds when I touch a color can be really helpful for the game.

Background Reflection

1)  The stages use a similar technique to the sprites broadcasting.  Once one thing switches the program knows when to have the next person talk or the next movement.
2) You put them in the location that would be correct-looking before the scene changes.  They know to start talking when you use the "When backdrop switches" button.
3) You can use scene changes when you are making a game.

Broadcasting

1) Broadcast is an easy way to get two sprites to converse without having to use a ton of wait buttons.  It makes it less confusing and smoother.
2) I would use timing when two sprites are simply talking without an interruptions.  It would be clear how long each wait would be since you know how long someone is speaking.  I would use broadcast when more things are happening, like costume changes and background changes.  These types of blocks don't say how long they are so it would just be more simple to use the broadcast.

Make a Block

1) Make a block is really useful when you want to save room.   Instead of having a ton of blocks, there is only one.  You can make it do whatever you want.
2) I will use it when I need to make my sprite do something that is repeating often.  Instead of writing the program over and over again, I can use one block as many times as I need.

Debug It Reflection

1) One strategy I used was using more than one Start signal when things needed to go at the same time. This helped a lot on the last one.
2) I would help people by giving them a clear objective of what they needed and do one block at a time.

10 Blocks

1) By exploring how much we could do with 10 blocks, it shows that there are endless different possibilities to making programs on Scratch. 2) This did restrain my ideas because sometimes I had an idea to add an action to make my program more interesting but it wasn't any of the 10 blocks so I couldn't use it.

Scratch Reflection

I was surprised to see how easy it was to do this whole thing. I always thought it would be so difficult to program something like this but scratch made it really simple and fun. Although I thought it was easy, the step by step directions were very helpful. I think this program would have been harder if there wasn't any structure.  Personally, I would like a few more structured lessons but once I get more comfortable with the program I think we should get some more freedom with this program.  I do my best creative work when there isn't any structure and I think I can make so many cool programs with this website in the future.

Webpage Design

3 Problems:
  • I had a hard time with the images.  I used the code from one of our earlier assignments and the picture would not come up when I ran the documentI then used a different code from the HTML tutorial and the pictures worked then.
  • I also had a problem with the links.  They showed up but they wouldn't work when I clicked on them.  It turns out I had the same problem as the images and they worked once I used the right code.
  • The final thing I had problems with is the background color.  I put in a code and used a hue number for pink.  When I ran it, it came out as blue.  I liked the color so I left it but I do not know why it did that.
2 Successes
  •  I did not have any problems with making the borders.  In my code there was a spot where I could put in a number for the thickness of the borders.  It worked without any troubles.
  • Another thing I succeeded at was the actual research part.  I was really happy I could write about this topic and I thought I presented all my information in nice orderly sections.
Favorite Part
  • My favorite part was the special effect.  I looked up cool HTML effects and I found one for a marquee.  I put it in at the top of my document and I could have words scrolling across the page.  I thought it really brought my whole webpage together.

Summer 2014 Fashion Advice Summer Fashion Trends 2014

Lastest Trends

Summer is all about the bright colors. Bright colors are great during this season since they bring out your tan and happier colors just seem to go with this happiest season. One of my favorite pieces this season to go with the bright colors is skater skirts. Another great trend this season is statement necklaces. Statement necklaces have been big for a while and I think they are a great way to make a boring outfit more interesting. The final trend I saw a lot was textured shorts. I haven't seen textured shorts often but I found a really cute pair from Jcrew. Textured shorts are a great addition to any outfit during the summer.

Crop Tops are still in

Crop Tops are a great fashion trend but only if they are done right. The best way to wear one is with a skirt or something high waisted. Personally, I have always loved floral designs so when I heard the floral crop tops were in this summer, I was very exicted! I have already found some very cute ones that I can't wait to wear.

Best Stores This Season

These are some of my favorite stores this season. Madewell, Jcrew, and Brandy Melville have great everyday summer clothes. Lilly Pullizter is an essential to any girls closet. Stella and Dot is my favorite place to buy statment necklaces along with many other types of jewelry too.

X Ray Goggles

The first website I changed was the Computer Apps page.  I changed it to look like it was a page for a History class.  I changed things such as the links and titles of the contents to things that are related to History.  The second website I changed was my dance studio's hair and makeup page.  I made many little switches such as the names of the dances and the dates on the side bar.  I also changed the information on the bottom like the phone number and the address.  The final one I changed was twitter.  I changed the most recent tweet's name, caption, and time it was tweeted.  I also changed all the trends along with "Worldwide Trends" to "Reading Trends".  I changed the right side bar from "Who to Follow" to "Who Follows You".  The final change I made was my twitter name,  the amount of tweets, following, and followers I had.  I thought this was really interesting since I could change anything on any website for only me to see.  It feels like hacking, without actually changing something.
