Powersearching with Google in Real Life

Powersearching with Google has taught my very usful tips for searching in everyday life. One of the most important features of Google that I found was the Google Books. This will be really helpful when I need to verify quotes and I don't have a book with me.  I really like that a lot of the classic books are free so I can easily access them whenever I want to.  Another really helpful feature is using the - sign in your search query.  When you use the - sign then a term, it will eliminate all the results that contain that term.  It has always annoyed me when I am searching for something and the majority of the results are just on useless information.  I have already used this filter for many research projects and it will continue to be helpful in the future.  The final part on power searching that I really like is the ability to find a whole phrase using quotes.  This has been really helpful when I am looking for a song title and I only know a few lines in the song.  I really found this power searching unit useful and it has helped me become a more efficient searcher.

  1. I also found the Powersearching course to be extremely helpful. I agree that filtering images by color and the OR shortcut have been very useful. Another one of the most useful things I have learned was all of the shortcuts. Such as, "define:", "weather:", and "time:". I also feel like a more advanced searcher.

  2. I agree, Anna! I also found the Power Searching with Google extremely helpful. I agree that the Google Books is one of the most beneficial tools that we learned. I think that it will be useful when writing research papers. I also search for song lyrics, so I agree that the quotes will be helpful in the future!
